For sale here is a matching pair of 100% metal LIFESIZE and wearable MGM Epic Film Movie Hero leg armor greaves from the Silent Movie era 1924 to the 1960's and worn by Officers of the Roman Republican, Augustan Time period or early Empire Officer such as a Legate, Consul, Tribune or Prefect. They can also be worn by a Centurion or even a Roman Gladiator as these types of greaves or leg guards were designed and originally made for films such as Quo Vadis, Ben Hur, Julius Caesar, Jupiter's Darling, King of Kings, and other Roman'Sword and Sandal' movies. He would have to not just be an armorer but would have to be an artist and a historian as well to make them this nice and this accurate. Anyone with any knowledge of the different types of Roman leg armor designs will recognize that these greaves are not a fantasy piece but were designed and influenced from original Roman designs made and used by the Romans at Pompeii and elsewhere. Just because you can beat a flat piece of sheet steel into a bowl does not mean you can chisel into high relief art work like this.
I only know of a hand full of real armorers with this kind of artistic ability and historical knowledge. They are 16.25 inches tall at the areas marked.
The outside wrap around length at the knee measures 12 inches and the outside wrap around length at the calf is 10.75 inches and wrap around length at the ankle is 8 inches. They are gold gilded bronze. If you understand how both Gothic and Maximilian armor were stronger then other suits of armor in their day due to the strengthening effect of using raised relief work in the design, then you will understand and also see how these greaves are stronger due to their raised art work as it accomplishes the same desired effect. Each greave weighs 1.9 pounds. So here is your chance to own a set of 100% metal Roman greaves decorated in beautiful high relief Roman art work that also have their own history from the MGM Prop Warehouse dating back from Silent Movie era 1924 to the 1960's and administered by David Weize Auctioneers.
These are the finest looking movie prop greaves that I have ever seen in my 35 years of collecting and I can guarantee you that you will never be able to find a more spectacular pair of greaves in both their Roman artistic ability and Roman style accuracy then these made for the'Sword and Sandal' epic movie film industry in their golden years. The greaves are ingeniously designed and have leather strap loops going up and down both sides to hold them onto your leg snugly. The gold finish is not real gold but a faux gold finish only. These greaves are not plastic or cold cast but are as strong a metal as used by the Romans themselves and actually should be seen as real armor and not just a hero costume prop. For this reason, they are also perfect for Roman reenactors.
I also have around a hundred vintage black and white and color photo still's from many "Sword and Sandal" movies in my collection for sale. A few are shown here. Inquire if you are interested.
