Antique Hartmann Steamer Cushion Top Movie Prop Travel Wardrobe Trunk

Antique Steamer Wardrobe Trunk made by the Hartmann Trunk Co. I believe this trunk dates to around 1920. This trunk is designed to stand on end to open sideways with one side drawers and the other for hanging. On the right are four drawers. These drawers can come all the way out. The other side has an attache case for storing smaller items that also can be removed.

The left side top is hinged to lift up, lined in padded rose colored velvet. This side has metal rods for hanging clothes. These rods can swing out for easier access to your clothes.

There are 5 wooden hangers, 1 plain wooden rod, and 3 long, double hangers with wood on top and a curved wood piece at the bottom - for trousers? The drawers and attache case are covered in a green print cloth in a pretty, abstract print. The outside is forrest green with heavy, metal corners and buckles. There is one heavy duty handle on the top (when vertical). On the bottom, under the last drawer is a list of patents used in this trunk.

It's in really nice condition! There is some definite discoloration of the green coloring and some rust on the metal areas. There are some abrasions to the fabric where is has been rubbed in and out - especially under the bottom drawer as it rubbed against that center metal piece.

In the bottom of the trunk, on the side with the hangers, and in the picture is visible with the key and the metal rod, has some water damage it appears. There is a rod for a curtain so that if the flip top was down, you could have a curtain to cover the hanging clothes. (I don't have the curtain). I marvel at the ingenuity that went in to making this detailed steamer trunk. All heavy duty and sturdy materials. The fabric covered drawers are wood. Empty and measures 40"x 22" x 21.
