Ujio's (Hiroyuki Sanada) Samurai Sword used in Edward Zwick's 2003 historical drama, The Last Samurai. Ujio can be seen brandishing this katana throughout the film.
Made from a variety of materials, the blade is made of alumninum and connects to a tsuba (guard) that is made from rubber. The tsuka (handle) is made from resin with a simulated ito braid that is cast directly into the resin, and painted to appear as though it were wrapped in black leather. The blade has been dulled for safety, with a shade of grey paint along the edge, giving the piece the impression of being sharp. Due to production use, this item exhibits some wear, with breaks in the rubber guard and minor dents in the blade (see photos), however it remains in overall good condition.
